Historic Environment Record entry

Listed building

A good example of an historic farm group with 18th century farmhouse, with earlier origins and fabric to circa 16th century, and 19th century additions. Retains historic character with some original features surviving from various periods. [1]

Shown on the Richmond Map of 1795.

The arched doorway and 1659 lintel indicate 16th or 17th century origins; the house probably re-faced in 18th century. 19th century additions.

Parallel plan farm group with long range of buildings, with central two-storey five-bay farmhouse, and farm buildings to rear yard. East wing: three-bay, single storey with attic. West wing: 2 storey, lower than house, nine- bay. Modern single storey link to north barn, converted to residential. New garage block to east. Three stone pillars relocated from St Aubin's Market. The interior retains circa mid-18th century staircase to main house; original 18th century tongue-and-groove wood panelling; original doors; early 19th century staircase in west wing.

Old Jersey Houses

A brief entry in Volume One notes the Larbalestier connection and indicates that the main house was rebuilt in 1801. Aside from the mention of an arch, no further details are provided of a significant property to which the author was presumably unable to gain access

Notes and references

  1. The HER listing strangely describes the granite of the main house as 'orange'. The correct term for this colour of Jersey granite is red
